NORTH EASTER TOURS

The eastern slopes of northern Ecuador have excellent birding sites with some common birds with the west and also new birds only seen on the eastern slopes.   I have extended this tour to get a taste of the Amazonian valley.

This tour begins in Quito or Pululahua and explores the slopes all the way to the vicinity of the Amazonian low lands.  The eastern tour begins with a visit to the extensive high altitude reserve of Antisana National Park where it is almost guaranteed to see the Andean Condor and other highland specialties like the Black-faced Ibis, Andean Lapwing, Caranculated Caracara, Silvery Greebe, and others.

As we drop in altitude we will stop at important sites like Guango Lodge 2700 masl, Cabañas San Isidro at 2000 masl, Guacamayo Ridge at 2800 masl, WildSumaco at  , continue to find new species throughout the multiple sites that we visit.

Here is a list of the main site we typically visit in this tour:

Antinsana National Park
Cayambe-Coca Reserve
Guango Lodge
Cabañas San Isidro
Guacamayo Ridge
WildSumaco

Papallacta Pass Antenas
Old Road to Baesa

In the conservation tour we stay with the community of Pacto Sumaco at their remote cabin.  This is a very basic lodging arrangement that provides financial support to the local community and reinforces the values of forest conservation.  Additionally it puts you in contact with friendly sound of the night owls and early birds that fly near the cabin.  This is a great place to get some close looks at the Military Macaws.
